Paul McCarthy has long been regarded as one of Western Australia’s leading songwriters and vocalists. Originally coming to public attention in the early Eighties as the songwriter for The Boys, who were one of the first WA acts to top the ARIA charts backed by multiple Countdown appearances, McCarthy went on to front legendary band The Jackals, winning multiple WAM awards for best vocalist and songwriter along the way, as well as winning the West Australian Songwriting Competition. In the mid Nineties he took a break from playing live and established the music course at Central TAFE. At the beginning of the new millennium he established Groove The West Australian Music Magazine which was distributed in over 3000 newsagents Australia wide. In 2012 he returned to the live music scene fronting Paul McCarthy and The Wishers and quickly re-established himself as one of the scenes leading lights. More recently he has played to packed houses revisiting The Boys and The Jackals.

Earlier this year McCarthy teamed up with acclaimed guitarist Peter Reeve, Bass player Jarrad Carr and Drummer Troy Shirlaw to present Circus, a new band which draws songs from all stages of his career. Plans for a debut album are well underway and a national tour is planned for early in the new year.
